the natural one. for a refreshing twist, add a splash of your favorite fruit juice. go to facebook for delicious drink ideas. a man is in the hospital tonight after being shot by bart police. it happened just before 10:00 at san francisco's civic accept ter station. and that's -- civic center station. and that's where john alston is with more. >> still an active scene here. a dozen or so police cars from bart and san francisco along market and seventh street. the civic center station is closed and has been for awhile. this happened shortly before 10:00 when there were reports that a man on the bart platform at the civic center station had a knife in his hand. an officer believed to be a bart police officer opened fire shooting the man. the man was taken to the hospital. we do not have the full report on his condition at this point. a short time ago we spoke to a

tourist from mexico who was on the platform. he told us the train was parked in the station. he heard four shots and ran toward the activity and saw a man on the platform on the ground and a dance from his hand a knife which this witness described as being 10 to 12 inches from handle to tip of the blade. the man was taken to the hospital. we do not have any confirmation on his condition at this time. the bart station is closed and the trains are rolling through the station. however, powell street and van ness is still open. we were awaiting more from the bart spokesperson to tell us more on what happened, and we will have more information as soon as we get it during this newscast. live in san francisco, abc7. >> thank you very much, john. in other news, a small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on interstate 280 this evening. it came down in the northbound lanes just north of farm hill

road. the single engine cessna came in below the power lines and clipped the back of a mercedes on the freeway. the chp says the pilot took off from the san carlos airport on a test flight and had some fuel problems. he was able to radio a may day back to the airport just before landing on the right hand shoulder of the freeway. the chp hauled the plane back to san carlos about five miles away. neither the pilot nor the driver of the mercedes were injured in the collision. a large fire destroyed 37 cars today at a rental lot in south san francisco. tonight investigators say illegal fireworks may be the cause of the fire that ripped through the hertz rental car lot on south airport boulevard. this is cell phone video of the flames ripping through that lot. guests at the airport value ip next -- value inn say they heard fire works just before they were evacuated. >> i see nothing but smoke and flames. i thought we were on fire. i just told my family to get

everything and get out. and that was before the cops started actually getting people out. i was already out. we were just out there and then the fireworks and stuff was exploding and you can still hear the fire trucks coming. i could tell it was big. >> i heard firecrackers going off in the back there. i looked and didn't hear nothing. five minutes later that was it. >> the hertz manager found a firecracker at the scene. firefighters sprayed down the charred cars to make sure they did not reignite. now to the weather and the heat we had today. leigh glaser is here with some record temperatures. leigh? >> actually we had just one record and that was in salinas. the high you can see of 84 degrees actually surpassed a record of 82 degrees. check out some of these highs today. 100 in antioch. concord reached 100 degrees. livermore 101. brentwood, you reached 102. san ramon reported 105.

san francisco 81 degrees today. and napa today 97 degrees. now, let me go ahead and show you what happened today. more of a northerly wind component bringing us the offshore winds. the fog being pushed off the coast and that's why the coastal communities were in the 70s today. as you just saw, the high heat inland well over 100 degrees. tonight though it does look like the low clouds and the fog off the coast will start to push back toward the bay, and that could mean a little bit of cooling for us tomorrow. we'll look at my accu-weather seven-day forecast coming up. >> thank you, leigh. this heat had people diving for shade anywhere they could find it including the alameda county fair in pleasanton. and that's where cecilia vega reports. >> there really isn't a way to beat pleasanton's near triple digit heat. you just learn to cope with it. that means hiding under whatever shade you can find or create and staying well

>> we are going to jump in the pool. >> as the temperatures sizzled so did the grils around the bay area in -- so did the grills around the bay area. it forced the air quality monitors to declare it a spare the air day. and while barbecuing was not technically illegal, it was not advised. >> people are allowed to barbecue, but we strongly encourage them to use their gas grills because they pollute less than the charcoal grills. even if they have to use the charcoal grill they can lessen it by not using lighter fluid. >> it gives a bad taste to the food. >> barbecues are not the only potentially dangerous forel tradition. some people just can't help it. the bigger the fireworks, the better the holiday. even if the big pack costs $239. and in dublin, one of the few places in alameda county where it is legal to buy and sell fireworks, every purchase big

or small comes with a warning. >> we asked them to please stay where it is legal. we asked them to go to the parks that are designated for them. >> the parks will be open from 10:00 in the morning until 10:00 in the evening tomorrow. and if you also had plans to hold the 4th of july barbecue, go ahead and do so. tomorrow is not expected to be another spare the air day. tuesday though could be a different story. cecilia vega, abc7 news. and police across the bay area are are on the lookout for fireworks. they sell safe and sane fireworkses. but there are strict rules regarding the use of the fire works. most importantly they can only beset off in cities where they are purchased. most cities have a zero tolerance policy for setting off any type of fire work. violations can result in a fine of up to $4,000 and selling the fireworks can lead

to criminal charges. about 12,000 injuries are caused by fireworks each year in california and half involve children. if you are traveling on bart, trains will operate on a sunday schedule during the day with extra trains to accommodate all of the people attending the san francisco fireworks display. a seaplane that sank off the cost of sausalito was pulled out of the bay. the plane crashed into richardson bay on friday. witnesses captured video as the sea play tried to take off, but hit a wake and flipped nose first into the water. the passing boater rescued the pilot and his passenger. we spoke to the captain of the boat today. >> i saw the plane nose into the water and then the two guys climbing on to the wings. we turn around and went right to them and asked them if they needed a lift. they said, yeah, as a matter of fact we do.

>> it took dive teams more than a day to locate the sunken plane under the water. they are now consulting with the f.a.a. to see if the pilot violated any rules. an update on the shooting at the bart station coming up. also, there were two big fire work displays this third of july. why some people couldn't wait for the fourth. and the stuff of science fiction is made real at a fiction is made real at a little fremont

with more. >> alan, we just got briefed by lynn johnson. first off, the suspect who was shot by police has died. the man died about a quarter to 11 this evening. according to the spokesman, it unfolded at about 9:30 when the officers got a call of a drunken person on the platform at the civic center station. officers responded to the case of the drunken person on the platform. while they were there investigating that, they say they found a man who was brandishing a knife. at that point there was some type of encounter and shots were fired, and that person was killed. it is unclear according to bart whether the person who had the knife -- who allegedly had the knife and who also was the drunk and disorderly person are in fact one in the same. that's something they are still looking at. but the person who was shot here at about a quarter to 10 has in fact died, and bart police are trying to put together whether that is the same person they initially went to investigate who was

supposedly drunk and disorderly on the civic center platform. the civic center station is still closed at this point. live in san francisco, john alston, abc7 news. >> thank you for that update, john. the governor of montana is criticizing exxonmobil for downplaying the recent rupture of a pipeline that spilled tins of thousands of -- tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the yellowstone river. he says the company needs more people to inspect the rupture up close. the president of exxonmobil says flyovers of the leak show most of the damage is limited to a 10-mile stretch of the river. they brought in more clean up workers today to mop up some of the crude oil. paychecks for america's top executives grew again after shrinking during the 2008-2009 recession. according to the redwood city-based equilar, the median pay for the top execs was

$10.8 million. that works out to a 23% pay raise from 2009. the typical american worker is earning a little under $40,000 got a raise of $200 last year. that's an increase of one half percent. this week a fremont company won the oscar of technology. the annual r and d award for media glass, an invention right out of the movie "minority report." richard hart reports on the drive to discover a fee through video screen. >> reporter: if this video screen looks a little familiar, it could be because you saw a movie called" minority report." in it tom cruise sees through the images on his monitor. >> in "minority report" people put information on the glass. this tech technology can do it now. >> reporter: he combines an invisible laser beam with a nano technology film. one player turns red in a

laser light and one turns green and one turns blue. each layer made of particles so tiny the visible light passes between them. coat your windshield and it will display a see through dashboard and add a gps map. >> this is being drawn by a laser beam. but the colors you are seeing are not the color of the laser beam. the laser light is invisible. the glow you can see is the nano material responding to the laser light. that coating can be put on any clear material, even material not clear. it is completely absorbed by the material so the laser beam doesn't pass through. in fact, it could be built right into an automobile windshield. >> reporter: general motors is testing it in show cars and disney in its theme park. there is holographic material for use with a nonlaser projector. the small start up in fremont seems to come up with a n application every day. it is appearing on retail displays such as the shop window in san enselmo.

develop there. so that's why the camera was bouncing a bit. check out antioch. once again the hot or warm temperatures at this hour. 86 degrees. holding heat in concord. 76 livermore. 76 and clear skies. fremont right now 71. 62 in san francisco. in the north bay, santa rosa clear and 76 and napa has dropped off to 65 degrees. once again tonight, it is going to be mild especially inland. we will see a little fog sneak up near the coast overnight tonight thanks to a wind shift that will take place, and that will bring us slightly cooler temperatures tomorrow, and then as i mentioned, wednesday, thursday and friday get ready for the big cool down to affect the entire bay area. let's look at lows tonight. 60s, mid to low 60s interior east bay locations. concord tonight 62. and you will notice we went ahead and put a little fog sneaking up the coast. half moon bay will drop to 52. 55 for san francisco. oakland 59. the north bay, napa with clear

skies 58 degrees. high pressure positioned itself over the bay area today bringing us the warm north to northeast winds. overnight we will see a wind shift. the high kicks out toward the east and it will add the trough of low pressure to get a little closer to us. the winds will shift around to more onshore cooler wind direction, and that will mean temperatures coast and bay will come down maybe four or five degrees. inland communities, well -- some of you may not feel the cool down at all. but we will shed a few temperatures off your daytime highs. but it is going to be hot inland with temperatures mid to upper 90s. tomorrow night, inland locations, you will have clear skies for all of the fireworks and festivities. the main concern will be right near the coast and the bay. so fisherman's warf, 9:30 tomorrow night, we may introduce along -- a little patchy fog there, but temperature wise as the fireworks get going in the mid to low 60s. here is a look at our highs tomorrow. once again a little bit of a

cooling near the coast and the bay. the westerly winds will be with us. 90 for san jose and 89 sunnyvale. 68 for half moon bay. low 90s and upper 80s for the peninsula. san francisco tomorrow 75 degrees. you may wake up to a little low cloudiness there. santa rosa 92. 91 for napa. 84 for oakland and plenty of sunshine and still hot in the east bay. brentwood 98. 96 for concord and gilroy tomorrow in the mid to upper 90s. 97 degrees and 80 for salinas. my accu-weather seven-day forecast. a couple more days of hot temperatures, and then it is all over about. looks like by wednesday, thursday and friday those winds, the fog will really start to move back in. that's when we will really start to cool down. much cooler as we head into friday and saturday. >> we will be able to see those fireworks. >> we will. >> now to rick quan who is in with shu. we have bay area allstars to talk about. >> five players from the bay area and all are pitchers.

one of the giants selected was tossed to the curb. >> that's right. he was cut by the phillys a year ago. the giants gave him a chance when zito went down with an injury and look at him now. he is an allstar. they will have four players for the next game. lincecum, cain, wilson and vogelsong who got the start today against destroyed. the tiger cubs were hoping to avoid a sweep. san francisco took a 3-1 lead in the fifth when this chopper gets past santiago. the giants committed three errors and then more costly than this one by tahada in the seventh. instead of being the third out his bad throw to first left the bases loaded. ordonez made them pay by coming through with a clutch two-run single. it is 4-3 tigers.

they nearly retook lead and rowan sends this one to the gap. rayburn makes a great diving catch to end the inning. he goes on to win it 6-3. here is the allstar lineup. mccann is the catcher and the brewers have three starters including ricky weeks. paw plan co is at third and reyes at short. geo gonzalez is the only athletic going to the allstar game. today against arizona he showed why he was chosen. he struck out seven while allowing just one run over seven innings. the a's took control in the 6th. connor jackson takes ian kennedy deep for a two-run homer. later that same inning and sizemore delivers another two-run shot. the a's roll 7-2. gonzalez is 3 and 0 with a 1.29 run point average. he phoned geo this morning with the good news.

year. the sharks get a solid veteran. last season the 30-year-old ford had 22 goals and 40 assists. he makes about $2.5 million less than heatly and still has four years left on his contract. tomorrow novak will be ranked number one in the world. and why not? he captured the australian open and won 43 straight matches and today claimed his first title at wimbledon. his opponent in the final, rafael nadal. the serve came out strong. he takes the first set 6-4. he was all over the court. he gets this drop shot and comes back with one of his own. the man was pumped up. he did capture the third set, but he would not be denied. this was the championship point 1k3* nadal's return is long and over. he wins it 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 and it is his 6th victory this year.

"trans formers: dark of the moon" took in $97 million in the first weekend. the sci-fi flick broke the three-day 4th of july weekend record for domestic revenue.
